What can I install on a computer that will lock the operating system after a set period of time passes?

I am a computer repair guy, and am tired of people paying me with checks that bounce. I would like to find a way to lock the computer after 1 week, where the person would need to call me for a verification code. That way I can ensure I will get paid, and if I don’t they cannot use their computer. It takes 1 week for a check to clear, that is the reason for the automatic lock after a certain time period. Thanks for any help you can offer.
I do accept credit cards but just got burned on a big check from last week and now the person isn’t answering their phone. Maybe I am just mad right now, but it doesn’t seem right that people can not pay for a benefit given to them.

i’m not sure you can legally do what you want to do. if you’re having a hard time with checks, and are not set up to take credit cards, you should probably accept cash only.
you could probably set up a paypal account online for this purpose as well..
You can’t do that on peoples computers. If you have problem collecting money let them know you only accept cash.
If you look at this spec it allows you to lock a computer at a specified time. Not sure if it will work on a certain day.

You’ll lose a lot of customers with the I-hold-your-computer-for-ransom business model. Demand payment via PayPal while the system is being repaired or require cash on delivery. If you truly wanted to lock somebody’s system, create a scheduled task that triggers a registry edit that will kill the system until a backup is restored.
