is landlord responsible for spoilage when freezer doesn’t work?

By admin

I have lived in the same house for 8 yrs. It is extremely difficult to get the landlord to replace anything and some things are beyond repair. Today the refrigerator/freezer quit working – for the 3rd time. The past 2 times I had to throw out hundreds of dollars of food and I expect I will again this time. Can I deduct the amount of my loss from my next rent check? Thanks!

You know If he is responsible for all the appliances then yes he should pay. Maybe you should take legal action cause thats not right.

what has the land lord to do with the freezer in the first place ,
the toilet maybe and if the roof leaks ,

but the freezer is not house ,like if the tv breaks or the radio ,is surely also not landlords concern

not if the freezer is yours, but if it is the landlords and you told him about the problem previously, then its his fault.

did you tell your landlord first of all? this is what you do. tell your land lord this is the second time this has happened. he must replace it and other things that are wrong……if he say no then goto court and place your rent money in escrol with the court.do this every month untill he fixes every thing….he can not evict you for this. call legal aid also. they can help you with how to do it and possibly put pressure on landlord. these kind of landlords are called SLUM-LORDS. you get them through placeing money, rent
in the courts untill all things are fixed then he gets the money.
people don’t know also you can break a lease for this kind of thing. and still get your deposit back. take pictures of every thing wrong to the court also. take him to court, and show proof. always keeep grocery reciepts. take pictures of the mess of food you have had to get rid of….then the judge will probally make him remberse you. sound like he just had freeon put in ref. get a new one. and have him do it.
