How do I fix a dead computer? I use Windows XP and need to know where to find out how to “restore” it to work

Yes, I have an XP disk, but I need to know how completly delete everything and get the computer to restart.

By “dead” I mean it will not go to the windows xp part, it only says that the part to start computer (xp) is corrupted, press r at start to repair…and then it will not let you repair.

It is only a game computer, it will not have any internet capabilities.

So please tell me how to kill it off and restart it..step by step.

reinstall xp and start from scratch.

Insert the CD and reboot the computer then follow the installation process. Tell it to reformat the drive then follow the bouncing ball.

If your xp disk is more than 12 months old it might be really worthwhile to connect the machine to the internet to run windows update. for games you will need directx 9c and also it will allow you to update to the latest video card and sound card drivers – all pretty important for a sound gaming machine.

dx9c and drivers can be done without internet connection but obviously its better if you can update the whole mjachine before you run it offline.

Good luck w it and happy gaming!

Go to BIOS change the booting sequence and make CD as the first boot drive
Now go and put your xp cd and start the computer.
When you start if will ask you to press any key to boot from cd
Now press any key for eg. space on the keyboard before it times out.
Once it boots it will do couple of check and ask you to repair you system or reinstall
You can select reinstall and format the hard drive run chkdsk to make sure you do not have any bad sectors or identify and mark them so that you do not have problems with your new installation.
