Does anyone know if you can rebuild a 3 speed hub on a bicycle with a kit?Or could it be adjusted?
If it’s not to hard could it be torn apart and cleaned, then reajusted?

Well, that depends on who made the hub.
If it is a Sturmey Archer AW3 you are in luck- the hub is still made and is almost unchanged since it was invented 108 years ago.
You can go to and find diagrams there, or to
There are also references at but the best resources are above.
If you have ANY other make, just throw it out.
I saw an ad for a class on rebuilding them so I know that working on them is possible. However it mentioned that parts for older ones are very difficult to find.
I might add about Sturmey Archer hubs that there are usually only a couple of parts that ever need replacement, no kit would be needed.
Depends on what’s wrong with it. Don’t know about SA, but Sachs (now SRAM) had a very nice box with spare parts for dealers, containing all the parts that could be replaced (springs, pawls, brake mantle, that stuff – not the gears themselves).
But first you’ll have to find out what make and type of hub it is, then what’s wrong with it.
