How can I keep my cats confined to the basement in a split level home?

We are moving to a split level home and there is no basement door. We also have a dog that does not get along with the cats, so we will have to keep them apart. The problem is that I’m concerned that either the dog or cats will jump over any kind of gate we put up between them. Any ideas??
put the cats in a cage. make sure the cats can’t escape from the cage….. that way, the cats will not mess with you……….
cage’s probably wont help much but theres a better solution. do you have baby gate’s/pet gates that prevent a pet from jumping/going into area you do not want it to go. that would work for your situation. a high perch for cat should help with the dog problem.
