ByI am a single woman who can do a few things but I don’t know anything about wiring. Is it hard to install a timer for my outside light that uses a flourescent bulb?

the easiest is a timer that replaces your light switch,it comes in several different time modes, and is very easy to put in

There are dozens of varieties of these kinds of things. Some are very sophisticated systems, and others are quite simple.
I believe you can purchase a unit that screws into the socket the bulb went into, and then you screw the bulb into this unit.
Then on the inside of the house you plug a module into the wall. This module them ‘talks’ wirelessly to the module telling the light whe to turn off/on.
I believe most units have a ‘random’ setting that allows the units to turn off/on at various rates and times over a given interval of time. This way the light won’t show a pattern.
Here’s a couple websites you can look thru.
