Can anyone help me find my missing files?

Hi everyone,
I have a problem on my hands. It all started when my pc shut down for no apparent reason and when i turned it back on it sent me straight to system repair, told me it would fix the problems but didn’t. So i knew that the only way i was going to get my pc running again was to do a system restore, taking it back to the original factory settings. However, i had files on there including music, pictures, videos, documents etc. that hadn’t been backed up. So i tried to go in through safe mode and save the files to my external hard drive but it wouldn’t let me. So i went on system restore and it gave me the option to back up my files on a DVD+R disc which i did, i used 3 discs to save 11 GB’s worth of files. So i restored my pc, i then put the discs in and found that my AVI.,doc.,mp3., etc. files were now all Wim. files so i looked at how i could open them and was directed to a program called bit zipper whch i installed and used. Now finally to my problem not all of my files are there for example albums that i had on there are missing tunes, pictures are missing etc.
So i was wondering if anyone knows where the files are. Did system restore simply just not backup all the files or do i need to download different software to extract these missing files??????? please help coz these files are really important.
Thanx

You most likely had a serious spyware infection. And restoring is not the way to handle this. A proper repair tool like malwarebytes could probably have fixed it. And the files were probably destroyed by the time you did the restore. That is why we keep backups.
